Day 6 - Gold Coast
Day 6 – Seduced by Medusa & Dancing with Dingos
“Everyone genuinely wants to help and make your stay the best it can be and that’s remarkable”
(Rita Manninen, Sales Assistant - Australiareiser, Norway)
A quick flight to Brisbane and we were on our way to our most luxurious destination yet. The Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast. We took a pit stop at the Charis Seafood Restaurant by the beach. It was our last chance to eat with our fingers before we arrived at the Versace. We took in the afternoon sun sitting by the promenade outside the Charis restaurant and watched one of the staff feed a large group of pelicans the left over fish while we fed ourselves the fresh stuff.
That night we went to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary where we were treated to an Aboriginal Corroboree experience with music, animals, dancing and lessons in Aboriginal culture and history. The dance of the Aboriginals is so emotive and powerful. At times you’re glad there’s a small picket between you and the dancers because their painted bodies, strong, aggressive movements and thunderous cries are intimidating.
- The Palazzo Versace is a lesson in attention to detail. Versace’s trademark Medusa’s head is depicted in mosaic across the foyer floor. The corridors are adorned with photographs of favourite super models wearing garments from notable collections and the whole hotel wafts with an alluring scent. It’s Versace’s Signature fragrance. I wouldn’t blame you if you never saw much of the rest of the hotel given the luxury of the rooms. Beautiful throw cushions, each different and finely printed, are scattered across the bed. The furniture is gilt edged and finished with fine cloths and everywhere you look there are polished marble surfaces gleaming back at you. Had we laid out by the huge central pool and then taken a dip we may never have been able to pull ourselves away. But there were flights awaiting our travel agents, they had to return to Europe to tell others of our Queensland adventure.
Local Tips:
- Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is home to one of the largest salt water crocodiles in Australia.
- You can buy a bottle of Versace’s signature scent at the hotel reception desk.
