Day 1 - Cairns

Day 1 – Our Jet Lag Cure; One Part Cairns Novotel Oasis & One Part Seafood Dinner

Maggie and I checked into the Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort, the perfect place to be after spending 19 hours on a plane. Summer is over, it’s hot winter here. The sun has that power we miss over winter in the northern hemisphere. The palm tree brushing against the side of our balcony gave us that holiday feeling straight away and helped bring a breezy atmosphere as we acclimatised to the temperature. My ankles didn’t take to well to the journey, but I soothed them with a dip in the large lagoon pool that sits among the trees at the centre of the resort. In the evening we had our pick of restaurants by the marina in Cairns and both went straight for the locally caught Aussie seafood that we’d been waiting to savour. After a long relaxing dinner we retired early to try and beat the jet lag.

Local Tip:

  • Bellavista restaurant at the Marina has a great menu, great wine and a truly warm service.
  • Check out the Asian market on Cairns Esplanade.
